Greg Velasquez (Percussionist) was born and raised an LA native. Growing up surrounded by musicians and artists, it was only fitting that he to pick up an instrument. Over his 20-year history he has had the opportunity to tour, sit in, and record with some of L.A. and U.K’s finest musicians.
A few years back Greg was a member of Rocco Deluca and the Burden. A staple band here from L.A. that acclaimed national and international recognition. The band signed with Iron Works Records in 03’ and Greg was able to tour extensively through out the US and Europe. Staging with the likes of: Keane, Matt Kearney, The Feeling, LifeHouse, Robert Plant, John Mayer, The Roots, The Breakestra, Jay Buchanan (Rival Sons), Jameson & Co. and Amos Lee, just to name a few.
Greg’s influences are varied and come from a wide range of different sounds, band or individuals: Cal Tjader, James Brown, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Sly & Robby, John Bonham, Ravi Shankar, Pancho Sanchez, early rock, soul, funk, reggae, blues, jazz, punk rock and everything in between. His take on playing: “It’s all about feel and letting the instrument become an extension of your hands. I love to experiment with the different ways I can make the drum talk. Combined with my study of Latin percussion and various rhythms’, it’s fun to put it all together. It’s a never ending process that keeps you hungry to learn more and more and to add the special butter or syrup a song needs.” Long time friends with Jerry Andrews and Dimitri Craven, Greg felt it so natural and blessed to be a part of this special project.
